♪Purpose – Music Themes

This week I chose the theme purpose to express what it means to be human, why we manifest to be here now. There are many reasons why people do things in the world, but do we consciously know why?

I’ll start by taking an excerpt from Master Seung Sahn’s book, “Wanting enlightenment is a big mistake”.

“The most important thing to consider when doing any action is, why do you do something? Only for you, or for all beings? Why do you eat every day – only for your body, for your tongue’s pleasure? If your direction is clear, then any action is clear. If your direction is not clear, even doing ‘good’ actions every day is not always clear. Correct direction means your actions are already beyond good and bad, and not based on the false notion of ‘I.’ So what kind of direction do you have? What is your intention, purpose? Determining that clearly in your mind is most important.”

“We must deeply consider what is human beings’ correct direction and correct way, right now. At this time? How does this action help other beings? Find that, and moment to moment to moment, just do it. If you find that, any action, situation or condition doesn’t matter. You must do it. That is Great Love. That is Great Compassion. The name for that is the Great Boddhisattva Way.”

With that in mind I would like to thank Jean for starting us off with Alicia Key’s purposeful song: We Are Here LYRICS

One of my favorite movies is “Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain”.  Amelie, an innocent and naive girl in Paris, with her own sense of justice, decides to help those around her and along the way, discovers love. Classic!

Have you found your purpose? “There is a reason” by Alison Krauss & Union Station

Till then, I’ll be “Dreaming My Dreams with You” – Cover by Alison Krauss LYRICS

Is the purpose to find our connection, our lost love? ♪Secrets are written in the sky
Looks like I’ve lost the love I’ve never found
Though the sound of hope has left me again
I hear music up above…♪

Or perhaps our purpose is to Wake Up and remember our “Lux Aeterna – Requiem For A Dream”

Remember that ancient river of life connects us all… “Yiruma, (이루마) – River Flows in You”

“Remind Me, Dear Lord” – Alison Krauss and the Cox Family

Whatever our purpose in life, we can share a good tune… “Any Old Time” – Jimmie Rodgers

My niece is hilarious, a born comedian, her purpose is to crack me up every chance she gets. Sharing her infectious spirit, she picks Meghan Trainor – “All About That Bass”. This song is about cherishing everyone for their unique and wonderful gifts, and developing positive body image. That’s my girl! 🙂

I’m dedicating this post to my precocious little niece, for whom life is one continuous sacred joke. God shines brightly through children, we are so blessed! ♥♥♥

  3. One of my favorite songs is amongst your selections also.

I enjoy learning something every time I see how everyone uniquely interprets the same theme. That is the aspect of this that is the most fun, to me.

Are you back on this side of the Pond, now?

Your precocious niece IS a cutie pie 🙂

    • Allô Bear! Wow I’m batting a 1000 so far, let’s see if Johnny agrees. 😀
I feel the same way, vive les differences! I esp. love discovering new and unique songs from around the world, different cultures, sounds, instruments, voices. Like an endless spectrum.
No I’m still in London wrapping up a photo shoot, I’ll stay with friends for awhile, catch a play.
Thank you, yes she’s adorable. She wanted to help “liven up” my posts – because it’s too full of “old people music”. Hahaha. I told her, consider someday your music would be labeled old too! Music is subjective, classics are forever. Without missing a beat she replies, “Duh, all my songs will become classics, I’m a classy chick!” LOL!!! 😛
