We will be exploring the nature of Hunger which Bear has chosen for our weekly theme. Let’s delve into our innate hunger for meaning, the desire to explore and understand our inner and outer reality. Why do we hunger for experiences to justify our existence, why “do” anything at all to satisfy our carnal subconscious longings? Existentialists call forth the unfolding of a grand design, perhaps we are programmed for hunger, destined to remain as Hungry Ghosts lost in physical form.
Hunger is the under-lying drive which compels us to live, for better or worse, for there is no better impetus to keep the experiment going. Massive Attack provides the brilliant track – Dissolved Girl – for the dystopian sci-fi movie Immortal.

“Have you had your rice today?” is a greeting similar to “How are you?”
“Thank you for all that you have done” is how my students concluded any correspondence to me. Much nicer than “Sincerely” and it covers all bases. Each recipient of this closure knows if they have done anything worth being thank for. Conversely everyone knows if they have not, and this phrase will either please or shame the reader, The responsibility for good acts is thereby passed to the recipient of the correspondence with that closure. I use it a lot. I even have it in my side-bar…. in English.

Hello Bear, have you eaten yet, how was your weekend? I love that expression, used it several times in Hong Kong cantonese (sic fann may aa)- to the amazement of the locals. It makes for a great conversation starter!
And thank you for sharing culture and wisdom with us, I love “あなたが行っていることすべてをありがとうございました” I’ll try to embody this mindfulness, truth. I look forward to watching these films, we are blessed to experience such cultural diversity – we are truly all connected as the native americans say. Have you seen “Jiburu – The Way Home”:

Hello Maddie!!!!
Oh I so love your opening selection by Massive Attack. Thanks for the movie lead to Immortal–I’ve not seen that film. Now it’s on my radar and to watch list, Maddie. 🙂
And Sway—Dark City is a great film–I’d forgotten all about that wonderful song.
I for one don’t think we are stuck being hungry ghosts—that’s a choice, isn’t it? Mindfulness on a roll.

Hi Eva thanks for dropping by! Immortal is a trippy movie, a sci-fi precursor to the whole MAtrix theme. U’r right, “hungry ghosts” represents the unconscious aspect of our nature, all the worldly desires that ultimately never fulfill our soul. It’s definitely a choice, I appreciate your thoughtful comment. Have a beautiful week Eva. 🙂

I’m not literate in Japanese so I’ll use this translator. I’m happy you enjoyed the music, yes I have eaten today, very well indeed. I see the English to Japanese translator is lost in translation, lol. 🙂
I know most Asian languages are read top down, left to right. Grammar rules are radically different, so much to learn.
