Vladimir Putin has completed his 2-day state visit to Greece, where he met with Greek PM Alexis Tsipras and Greek president. At the airport Putin was lavishly greeted, complete with red carpet, honorary guard and 3 jets flying overhead in his honor.

Greece, much like Italy, Cyprus, Hungary and France, as well as Germany, is trying to find a way to bypass sanctions and to increase trade with Russia. If you ask me, the easiest way to ‘bypass’ sanctions is to simply end them. But Brussels and Berlin play games, and this is what gets the rest of Europe in trouble.

One area for both Italy and Greece that may shine is Russian tourism, especially after Russian tourism left Turkey and Egypt. Another area could be investments. As I mentioned before, Italians are active at investing in Crimea, and so are Germans. Russian companies would be…

The NY Catholic Church Paid Lobbyists $2.1mn to Block Child Sex-Abuse Law Reform*

From 2007 to the end of 2015, the New York Daily News reports, the New York Catholic Conference, led by Cardinal Timothy Dolan, paid top Albany lobbyists more than $2.1 million to help block legislation, including the Child Victims Act, that would make it easier for victims of child sex abuse to seek justice.

If passed, the bill—a version of which is still pending—would change New York state law to allow a one-year window in which victims older than 23 could bring lawsuits against their abusers. (Such victims are restricted from suing under the current law.)

State records show that the conference, a group representing the bishops of the state’s eight dioceses, retained lobbyists to work on a number of issues associated…

Returning to the United States in an election year, I am struck by the silence. I have covered four presidential campaigns, starting with 1968; I was with Robert Kennedy when he was shot and I saw his assassin, preparing to kill him. It was a baptism in the American way, along with the salivating violence of the Chicago police at the Democratic Party’s rigged convention.  The great counter revolution had begun.

The first to be assassinated that year, Martin Luther King, had dared link the suffering of African-Americans and the people of Vietnam.
