A Sort of Despotism

It seems Trump tried to “drain the swamp”, but the swamp swallowed him whole! Now he falls in line just like every President since Lincoln!

In 1831 Alexis de Tocqueville visited the United States for nine months ostensibly to examine our prison system, but in fact to examine the American political system. He later wrote Democracy In America, a most remarkable book that very few read any more (sad to say). In a chapter of that book titled “What Sort of Despotism Democratic Nations Have to Fear” he provided us with an analysis that is as timely today as it was when he wrote it, proving once again that the classics are always relevant:

download-6Below is my column in the Hill Newspaper on latest statement on the cause of her electoral defeat . . . other than herself.  Notably, after the column posted, it was confirmed that there were roughly 3000 government communications found on Weiner’s laptop — leading to the re-opening of the investigation. As noted below, the belated discovery (and the delay in resolving the controversy) can be laid at the feet of Clinton and her staff.  The Clinton team delayed turning over material and participating in interviews.  Their disclosure of material was incomplete and ultimately lead to the “shiv” referenced by Clinton.
