Four ominous reasons Trump will win in 2020

By Jerry Kroth

October 30, 2019 “Information Clearing House” –    Moodys Analytics correctly predicted every Presidential winner since 1980, and two days ago, smack in the middle of the latest impeachment kerfuffle, they predicted Trump would win in 2020 by an electoral landslide.[1]

As a supporter of climate activism, having a climate change denier occupy the presidency another four years is absolutely bone-chilling. But the way the Democratic Party machine is acting, tethered to the corporate media as it is, chances are looking dimmer every day.

Here are four intrusive smelling salts intended to rouse Democrats from their sleep, because if they don´t wake up, Donald Trump is going to get re-elected.

Reason 1: Illegal immigration

One million people were stopped trying to cross into the United States last year. Yes, one million people! [2] One can only guess how many snuck into the country that were not stopped.

This actually bothers many Americans.

The liberal media interminably carps that detainees are treated poorly, that a child died in detention, that a pregnant mother was not given care, that a baby is crying for his parents, and that a racist, corrupt, uncaring, narcissistic President is responsible for it all.

It then tosses in a dollop of pedagogy to school Americans that the term “illegal alien” is racist, demeaning, and absolutely needs to be excised from the lexicon. All migrants, legal and otherwise, should be called “immigrants.” Most media outlets conform. New York City fines a violator $250,000 for using the term “illegal alien.” [3] Universities take it one step further and now fail students who use the term “illegal immigrant” on term papers.[4]

But despite this fusillade of sympathy for immigrants, that is, illegal immigrants, there is a large segment of American society that isn´t playing along.

Whatever this demographic is named —some call them “deplorables”—these Americans actually object to a million people entering the country without visas. They really do.

Here´s a voice large segments of the media and Democrats in particular, have not heard, are not listening to, but most importantly, will not listen to:

“Just because I don´t like these folks coming into our country, I don´t like being called a racist. I don´t like being told I am intolerant or that I´m a hate criminal. I just don´t like a hundred and fifty thousand foreigners slipping into our country every month, enrolling in our schools, using fake social security numbers, taking jobs, having babies who are given citizenship on the spot, being granted driver´s licenses, even medical insurance, and getting away with it all. The media and the Democratic Party seem to support every bit of it. And if you are opposed like I am, they call you a bigot. The only person I see who represents my feelings at all is Donald Trump!”

Most Democrats think something in those words is deeply offensive, or racist, or politically incorrect, or at the very least inappropriate, but unfortunately they represent feelings of real people. . . lots and lots of real people.[5]

Eighty percent of Americans think illegal immigration is a serious problem, [6] and

if Democrats and the liberal media do not wake up, Trump is going to exploit this sentiment and take illegal immigration fears, worries, and anger right to the bank.

He did it before, and he´ll do it again.

Reason 2: Impeachment backlash

Americans are weary of the impeachment circus parading on their nightly news. Impeachment talk began as soon as Trump took office and continued throughout his entire Presidency. If there was insufficient Mueller proof that the President colluded, that morphed into obstruction. And when obstruction withered, the Ukrainegate flag was raised for more saluting.

But a large share of the American body politic is beleaguered beyond belief by the obsessive CNN-MSNBC-New York Times fixations on this subject. Some of the population just doesn´t buy in. They are tired. They believe most of it is based on falsehood, rumor, inaccuracy, and wholesale hatred of the President of the United States.

We don´t know exactly how big that demographic is, but wherever this sliver of the population looks, and every late-night comedian they encounter, it seems just another anti-Trump propaganda foil is walking on stage. Whether Stephen Colbert, Trevor Noah, John Oliver, Seth Meyers, Kathy Griffin, Bill Maher or the entire cast of Saturday Night Live, Trump hatred syndrome seems ubiquitous.

Despite these media festivities, an important backlash is incubating to which Democrats seem oblivious. They don´t realize that the sanctimonious moral purity trip has gone on far too long, in too great an excess, and inside the inflating bubble of Trumpian animus, scads of on-the-fence-independent voters are fed up with the piety, condescension, character assassination, and saying to themselves, “enough is enough!”

Trump is going to accuse the media, Rachel Maddow, Major Garret, Jake Tapper, CNN, the Washington Post and SNL of promoting a witch hunt made up of falsehood, rumor, innuendo, defamation, endless conspiracies, constant attacks on his Presidency, character, and family, and he will remind his twitter followers that none of this turned out to be true. He will wear the “No collusion, No obstruction, Fake News” trope blazoned across his chest right across the finish line into 2020.

And it isn´t going to help the sanctimony of the Democratic Party one bit when Joe Biden keeps insisting that his son never came to him and said “Hey, dad I just got a job in the Ukraine that pays $50,000 a month! No experience necessary.” Democrat elites magically convinced themselves that Americans will believe Hunter Biden never got around to mentioning any of that to his dad. But they may be underestimating the intelligence of the electorate.

Vote for Joe? Seriously?

Reason 3: Endless Wars

Democrats used to be a party of freedom, peace, and love. They were opposed to war, especially the Vietnam War. Most liked Fidel too.

But today Elizabeth Warren and Nancy Pelosi applaud when jingoist John Bolton wants to overthrow the government of Venezuela. Hugo Chavez built 3 million homes for poor Venezuelans, cut poverty 48 percent in less than a decade, doubled literacy levels, and was brother-in-arms with Fidel, but Democrats today seem just as blood thirsty to overthrow Maduro and Venezuela as the Neo-Cons are.

When a peace initiative goes out to North Korea and a face-to-face negotiation happens—something Obama promised but never pulled off—Democrats object saying Trump is giving away too much or that he is grandstanding.

When Trump wants to withdraw troops from Syria—where the U.S. never had any legal right to be in the first place—they call it “betrayal.”

They yoked themselves so thoroughly with the military-industrial complex and Lindsey Graham they insist on remaining in Syria as much as he does. They want to press ever closer to Russia´s borders in the Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Estonia, and The Black Sea, and of course, their pom poms wave wildly as they cheerlead even more anti-Russian hysteria.

What Democrats miss is that a majority of Americans have consistently wanted us to leave Iraq (58 %), [7] to stay out of Syria (53 %), [8] to leave Afghanistan (61%), [9] and not to get embroiled in any war with Iran (57%). [10]

Seventy percent of Americans are opposed to these endless military adventures. [11] All of those majorities have been ignored by corporate Democrats when those polls were taken, and they still are ignored today.

Only Tulsi Gabbard meekly tries to remind the Democratic Party of its nonviolent roots as she is gingerly escorted out of the room by party insiders.

But Trump will stand up and say he did not enter any new wars as he promised, that he removed troops from Syria as promised, that he is negotiating a pull out from the 18-year disaster of Afghanistan as promised, that he sought peace in North Korea as promised, and that if re-elected he will continue to remove the U.S. from its idiotic wars.

And that salesmanship will rack up even more points that he can take to the bank, because his words fully resonate with how the majority of Americans actually feel.

Reason 4: Pocketbooks

Finally, and despite panglossian globalist rhetoric that permeates the media, Americans are not stupid. They can look around the Midwest and see decaying inner cities and eviscerated factories emptied of manufacturing jobs that went abroad in search of 50 cent-an-hour labor.

They never liked it in the first place, and when Trump offered to “make America great again” the slogan more than made the grade in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Ohio. They remembered their cities were once thriving manufacturing engines that made steel, aluminum, cars, televisions, and refrigerators.

But Democrats and the corporate media raged on for years against it. It is “tribalism,” they say, “nativism,” “populism” “protectionism” and, of course, all of these attacks are reflexively counterpointed with assignations that Trump is a criminal, a racist, a whoremonger, and a white supremacist to boot.

Underneath the media hyperbole, though, is an embarrassing reality that is hard to shake. Middle-class incomes are $6000 higher than they were when Trump took office. [12] 401K retirement plans went up 33 percent,[13] and many of these folks think Trump´s ballsy talk about tariffs and deals with Mexico, China, Canada, and Japan helped make all that possible.

A large swath of Americans were opposed to corporations outsourcing their jobs abroad. Bernie Sanders captured those feelings perfectly, but when Hillary railroaded him out of the nomination, Trump surreptitiously filled Bernie´s vacuum with the same message they wanted to hear and still want to hear.

He did it once and he’ll do it again: “Your incomes are better, your good-paying jobs are returning. Your retirement portfolios have grown. Your factories are coming home. I´ve stopped lots of countries from ripping us off, and I´ll stop them even more if reelected!”

Trump is expert in catalyzing anger and resentment, and he is all ready to bang out another home run and sashay around the bases with his signature haughtiness.

The former Democratic majority leader Harry Reid, and a Trump antagonist, last week warned that “Trump is a very, very smart man who won´t be easily beaten in 2020!”[14] Trump is far more cunning and intelligent than Alec Baldwin on Saturday Night Live makes him out to be.

We have to prevent another four years of Donald Trump. It is time Democrats became partners again with American workers, not elitists who think of the rank and file as deplorable.

It is time Democrats said we need our factories back.

It is time Democrats called illegal immigrants illegal immigrants.

It is time Democrats represented the gay community less and dispossessed factory workers from Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Appalachia more.

It is time Democrats promised to end hegemonic wars the military-industrial complex is forever selling, and slash the defense budget so student loan debt can be paid off and college graduates working at Starbucks and living in their parent´s basement can have future to look forward to.

And it is time they announced clearly, forcefully, and unambiguously that the most important priority which overshadows everything else is climate change. We are in the midst of the sixth extinction, and that includes the human race. We cannot endure a President who does nothing to stop the climate Armageddon we are facing.

The only hope, yes, the only hope, is that the Democratic Party will awaken from its delusory fugue state in time.

If it refuses to take off its halo and step down from the pulpit, obdurately insisting that the fundamental issues of our time are racism, sexism, transgender rights, and the Me Too Movement, Trump will walk away with the election hands down, further reduce restrictions on coal, and proceed to set the planet on fire.

An Imperfect Bit of Statecraft

Trump cancels the pullout from Syria then flip-flops, threatens war with Turkey and gives money to terrorists

By Philip Giraldi

October 30, 2019 “Information Clearing House” –   The long nightmare in Syria might finally be coming to an end, but not thanks to the United States and the administration of President Donald Trump. Trump’s boast that “this was an outcome created by us, the United States, and nobody else” was as empty as all the other rhetoric coming out of the White House over the past two and a half years. Nevertheless, it now appears that the U.S. military just might finally be bidding farewell to an exercise that began under President Barack Obama as a prime bit of liberal interventionism, with American forces illegally entering into a conflict that the White House barely understood and subsequently meddling and prolonging the fighting.

The fundamental reason why the U.S. was so ineffective was that the Obama Administration’s principal objective from the beginning was to remove Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, yet another attempt at “humanitarian” regime change similar to that which produced such a wonderful result in Libya. Al-Assad was never in serious danger as he had significant popular support, including from the country’s Christian minority, and American piecemeal attempts to negotiate some kind of exit strategy were doomed as they eschewed any dealing with the legitimate government that was in place. The Syrian civil war supported and even enabled by Washington caused more than 500,000 deaths, created some 9 million internal and external refugees, and destroyed the Syrian economy and infrastructure while also almost starting a war between the U.S. and Turkey.

The Russians understood the American mistake and consequently were able to arrange a settlement which now appears to be viable. They were able to deal with the Syrian government, Turkey, and the Kurds who had been set adrift by Washington. The arrangement arrived at has a number of significant features. First, it guarantees Syria’s territory integrity, which presumably means the U.S. will eventually have to evacuate its remaining positions in the oil region. Second, it satisfies Turkish legitimate security demands for a disarmed safe zone, which means that Kurdish militias will have to disarm and/or move twenty miles away from the border. The safe zone will be patrolled by the Syrian Army and the Russians with Turkish observers. Third, all separatist groups (terrorists) will be hunted down and eliminated and further attempts by them to reestablish in Syria will be opposed by all parties to the agreement. Fourth, steps will be taken to make possible the orderly return of refugees to Syria.

It is undeniably true that throughout the Syrian farrago, President Trump’s admittedly inherited policy could not possibly have been more incoherent, occasionally bizarre, predictably inconsistent, and actually dangerous to genuine American interests in the region. It is to everyone’s benefit that the game is finally over, but one can expect the neoconservatives in the United States to do their best to bring about yet another reversal by Trump.

It must be conceded that along the way, President Trump was not exactly acting with a free hand. He has been beleaguered by a Deep State conspiracy against him that began even before he was nominated, though he didn’t have to help his enemies by shooting himself in the head at every opportunity through tweets and demeaning language. The apparent commitment to withdraw all U.S. forces from Syria was long overdue as Washington’s involvement in the fighting was wrong by every measure right from the beginning and remaining has only served to make more complicated the country’s recovery from eight years of conflict. It also was contrary to its publicly stated objective of destroying ISIS. A strong Syrian government was and is best placed to do just that and Washington, in a panic to recruit, train and arm mercenaries to fight Damascus often wound up arming terrorists.

But doing what is right does not go far in today’s United States of America and the fact that Trump is now taking credit for a ceasefire and by extension a settlement of the conflict means little as he has predictably folded already once on plans to withdraw. The argument that the Kurds have been betrayed has a certain cogency, but the reality is that the Kurdish leaders entered into a relationship with the U.S. military based on their own interests with no expectation that Washington would be backing them up forever. They are now well placed to cut their own deals with both Damascus and Ankara, with Russia in the middle working to sustain the agreement to end the fighting and restore the Syrian state’s status ante bellum.

To give Trump his due, his original announcement that he was removing ALL U.S. troops from Syria made powerful new enemies in the Israel Lobby, which has been backing the president because of his many favors to Tel Aviv but which has never really liked or trusted him. Israel has long, and even openly, promoted the breaking up of Syria into its component tribal and religious parts to enable the acquisition of even more land in the Golan Heights and to reduce dramatically the threat coming from any unified government in Damascus. It has also seen the Syrian civil war as a proxy conflict fought by the its poodle the United States against Iran. Israel and its friends in Congress and the media will, to say the least, be disappointed if the war is now truly ended and the U.S. military is withdrawn.

Trump also must continue to deal with the fallout from his Democratic Party opponents, having given them a cudgel to beat him over the head with as Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and Adam Schiff all wax emotional over how they really love those “freedom fighting” Kurds. The Democrats, having denounced Trump with one voice, were joined by Republicans like Mitch McConnell, Marco Rubio, Mitt Romney and the ever-versatile Lindsay Graham, all dedicated to the continuation of an interventionist foreign policy, though they would never quite call it that. It is not likely that any of them are really pleased with a deal to end the Syrian fighting.

So the opposition, coming from multiple directions against a Donald Trump also on the impeachment block for Ukraine, will continue and as of this writing it is by no means clear what will happen vis-à-vis the Pentagon announcing that some troops, augmented by armor units, would remain in Syria to protect the oil fields. Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper explained to reporters that the remaining U.S. troops would seek “to deny access, specifically revenue to ISIS and any other groups that may want to seek that revenue to enable their own malign activities.” The president has also suggested, in true Trumpean fashion, that “We want to keep the oil, and we’ll work something out with the Kurds. … Maybe we’ll have one of our big oil companies to go in and do it properly,” a step that even the feckless Obama Administration had hesitated to take on legal grounds as the oil unquestionably belongs to Syria. Trump’s amigo Senator Lindsey Graham elaborated on the plan, saying bluntly that “We can use some of the revenues from future Syrian oil sales to pay our military commitment in Syria.”

And there will be additional fallout from Syria in the damaged relationships in the region. Demonstrating that it could actually screw up two things simultaneously, the White House had unleashed Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who warned last Tuesday that the United States was ready to go to war against Turkey if it proved necessary. He said “We prefer peace to war… But in the event that kinetic action or military action is needed, you should know that President Trump is fully prepared to undertake that action.” Pompeo’s comment comes on top of Trump warnings that he would “obliterate” or “destroy” the Turkish economy, statements that did not sit well in Ankara and will predictably only create new problems with a NATO member that has the largest army and economy in the Middle East.

And in another maladroit move, the White House has just announced that it will be giving $4.5 million to the so-called White Helmets, the major propaganda arm of the Syrian “resistance.” Falsely claiming to be a humanitarian rescue and relief organization, the White Helmets produced carefully edited films of “heroism under fire” that have been released worldwide. The films conceal the White Helmets’ relationship with the al-Qaeda affiliated group Jabhat al-Nusra and its participation in the torture and execution of “rebel” opponents. Indeed, the White Helmets only operated in rebel held territory, which enabled them to shape the narrative both regarding who they were and what was occurring on the ground.

The White Helmets travelled to bombing sites with their film crews trailing behind them. Once at the sites, with no independent observers, they are able to arrange or even stage what was filmed to conform to their selected narrative. Perhaps the most serious charge against the White Helmets consists of the evidence that they actively participated in the atrocities, to include torture and murder, carried out by their al-Nusra hosts. There have been numerous photos of the White Helmets operating directly with armed terrorists and also celebrating over the bodies of execution victims and murdered Iraqi soldiers. The group’s jihadi associates regard the White Helmets as fellow “mujahideen” and “soldiers of the revolution.”

Some White Helmets continue to operate in Syria’s terrorist-controlled Idlib province, raising the question whether the United States is prepared to give more taxpayer derived money directly to terrorists. Several months ago, as the Syrian Army closed in on some of the other pockets where the White Helmets operated, the U.S. and Israel mounted an operation to evacuate many of them. Some of them and their families were moved to Israel and Jordan and many of them have wound up in Canada. If the White House again does a flip-flop and pulls the plug on the money earmarked for them it would truly be a welcome sign that the U.S. has realized that the game is over and its direct involvement in Syria should be ended.

Trump and NY Times Admit US Imperialist War in Syria

By Finian Cunningham

October 25, 2019 “Information Clearing House” –   From extraordinary candid admissions made separately by US President Donald Trump and the New York Times, there can be no illusion about what American forces are really deployed in Syria for. It’s an illegal occupation against the Syrian government and in particular to deprive the Arab country of its oil resources.

Subsequently this week it is being reported that the Pentagon is to deploy Abrams tanks and other heavy equipment to the oil fields near Deir Ez-Zor. The troops involved for such a new deployment would far outnumber the 1,000 or so soldiers that President Trump had said were “coming home”.

The oil fields of Syria are located mainly in the eastern provinces bordering with Iraq. Those areas (about a third of the country) are the last-remaining territory still outside of the control of the government in Damascus. The Syrian state will need to recover its oil fields in order to fund the reconstruction of the nation after nearly eight years of war.

In a tweet last weekend, Trump stated: “USA soldiers are not in combat or ceasefire zones. We have secured the Oil [sic]. Bringing soldiers home!”

The president was referring to the dubious deal he hatched with Turkey last week which resulted in the US abandoning its Kurdish allies and unleashing a deadly offensive by Turk forces against northeast Syria. After incurring much criticism from both Republicans and Democrats, as well as military experts and media pundits for his withdrawal of US troops, Trump is understandably trying to put a positive spin on his move.

Hence he is bragging about having defeated the Islamic State (IS or ISIS) jihadi terror network “100 per cent” and “bringing soldiers home”. The latter is an apparent fulfillment of Trump’s 2016 election promise to “end endless wars” and return American troops home from foreign interventions.

So, what’s that cryptic reference by Trump about “securing the Oil about?” Notice too how he used capital O when writing “Oil”, indicating something strategic about his reference to Syria’s resource. Evidently, the purported defeat of terrorism and bringing troops home is not the full story. The oil oozes out between the lines.

A NY Times’ report on Monday sheds more light on that aspect. Admittedly, the Times is hardly a reliable source, given its embedded links to US intelligence agencies and its trenchant anti-Trump agenda warping almost everything it publishes. Nevertheless, given that Trump and the NY Times appear to be consistent here on the issue suggests that there is indeed substance to the admission.

The Times quotes an anonymous senior Trump administration official and Pentagon sources who say that the president is giving the go-ahead for a small contingency of American special forces, perhaps numbering 200, which are to remain in eastern Syria. That nails the lie that Trump is pulling all US troops out of Syria. He is not “bringing soldiers home”, as he keeps whooping about.

Mark Esper, the US Defense Secretary, also confirmed to reporters on route to Afghanistan last weekend that American forces will transfer to Iraq from Syria and remain near the Syrian border. Esper said the US military would be “defending Iraq” and deployed to prevent a potential resurgence of ISIS. At any rate, that’s the hackneyed official rationale.

However, on the matter of US special forces remaining in Syria, the NY Times reports: “President Trump is leaning in favor of a new Pentagon plan to keep a small contingent of American troops in eastern Syria, perhaps numbering about 200, to combat the Islamic State and block the advance of Syrian government and Russian forces into the region’s coveted oil fields, a senior administration official said on Sunday.”

That is an astounding admission. Forget about “fighting terrorists”, the real objective of US military deployment in Syria is to control the country’s oil resources which are predominantly located in the eastern provinces, where the US had been working in partnership with Syrian Kurdish militia for the past five years. That partnership was supposedly in the name of “defeating ISIS”.

Trump’s cavalier jettisoning of the Kurds in acquiescence to Turkey’s demand for a military attack on the Syrian Kurds, which Ankara regards as terrorists, is a clear demonstration that Washington’s agenda with the Kurds was never really about fighting ISIS, but rather it was about using them as proxies to balkanize Syria’s territory, in particular the oil-rich eastern region.

Trump’s self-congratulations about “ending endless wars” is all disingenuous platitude to drum up his re-election chances in 2020.

This president has been talking about withdrawing US troops from Syria for the past year, yet there are an estimated 1,000 still remaining there, as well as warplanes. The Pentagon has built bases and air fields in eastern and southern Syria near the border with Iraq. The troops moving out of Syria are taking up positions in neighboring Iraq from where they will conduct counterinsurgency operations, no doubt intended to maraud into Syria when desired.

Trump has agreed to keep 150 troops at the US base at Al Tanf in southern Syria, where the camp is a training ground for thousands of jihadist militants known as Maghawir al-Thawra. The Maghawir al-Thawra are not fighting ISIS, as the Pentagon claims. They are more accurately just another proxy for US interests, involved in a nefarious division of labor along with ISIS and the Kurds.

The militants out of Al Tanf can be expected to link up with the 200 US special forces and perhaps some remnant Kurdish mercenaries assigned to “block the advance of Syrian government and Russian forces into the region’s coveted oil fields,” as the NT Times reports.

This is no doubt what Trump meant when he alluded to “securing the Oil” in Syria. In that way, President Trump and the NY Times are admitting that the real purpose of American military being in Syria is for imperial conquest.

A cruel twist is that Syria needs to harness its oil in order to reconstruct from a war launched covertly on that nation by the US and its NATO partners back in 2011. Now, with sickening vindictiveness, the US seems intent on preventing Syria utilizing its own vital oil resources for recovery, by planning an illegal American military occupation of eastern Syria indefinitely.

Many astute observers of the eight-year in Syria always knew that Washington’s agenda was regime change and that its anti-terror claims were a fraudulent pretext. Now we have the US president and America’s leading newspaper owning up to the criminal occupation of Syrian territory and a land grab for oil.

Tanzania: Come for the nature, stay for the stock market

October 29, 2019
Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania

[Editor’s Note: Today’s Note from the Field comes from Sovereign Man Team Member Joe Jarvis who recently climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.]

For some people it starts with loss of appetite. Others get a headache and nausea.

Pole, pole is the motto, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro– slowly, slowly. At an altitude of 5,895 meters (19,340 feet), you can definitely feel the lack of oxygen on Africa’s highest mountain.

And while the tourists huff and puff with their light daypacks using climbing poles for support, the porters practically sprint past. They’re carrying all your stuff, plus the sleeping tents, mess tent, cooking gas canisters, all the food, water, and so on.

These guys–and some women too–do it with a smile.

Some of the friendliest, hardest working people I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet were the porters and guides on Kilimanjaro.

Most speak perfect English, which isn’t too surprising in the tourist industry. But slightly more surprising was the entrepreneurial spirit.

Both of my guides, and our waiter told me about the businesses they want to start.

(Yes, you get a waiter on Kilimanjaro. It’s quite posh honestly, especially for someone used to carting in his own equipment up mountains.)

Ghalib, the main guide, said he would stick to the tourist industry, but add in some eco-tourism. With Tanzania’s amazing soil, he wants to start a farm/hotel, and provide excursions to Kili and the Sarengetti.

Another guide, Abdullah, thinks Tanzania’s two growing seasons make fruit exports a solid opportunity. He’s saving up the couple thousand dollars needed for insurance in case the crop is lost, and will start looking at farmland for rent next year.

Another guide, January, hopes to own his own tourism business. He’s been a porter/ waiter on Kilimanjaro for three years. Now that the season is ending, he is starting school to become a guide.

In the West people expect to make big money straight out of university with an underwater-basket-weaving degree. But in Tanzania these guys seek out specific training to achieve specific goals, not just some wishy-washy education for the sake of having a piece of paper.

And when they aren’t on the mountain, they are hustling.

Ghalib serves as an informal middle-man for everything from clothing to televisions to Timberland boots.

When Abdullah told me that his grandmother used to bake him cookies, that sounded pretty standard. But they weren’t for him. He went out and sold them when he wasn’t in school or doing the family laundry.

And of course, the kids are out there on the side of the road selling fruits and crafts to tourists on the way to a safari.

Most Tanzanian businesses also make it really easy for you to spend money. They don’t put obstacles up… and whatever color your money happens to be, they’ll take it.

They’ll accept Tanzanian shillings, euros, US dollars, etc. I imagine some places accept Chinese renminbi too, given China’s dominant presence in the country.

The people and their impressive entrepreneurial spirit that I encountered on this trip convinced me of the economic potential in Tanzania.

Tim Staermose, Sovereign Man’s chief investment strategist and author of our investment newsletter The Fourth Pillar was actually born in Tanzania’s biggest city, Dar Es Salaam. And he routinely returns for business and pleasure.

With two young daughters, Tim has been looking for opportunities to build generational wealth.

He says Tanzanian still has simple businesses with durable competitive advantages, and decades of strong growth ahead of them.

He says Tanzania today is like Warren Buffett’s ‘Golden Era’, when Buffett was able to buy simple, high quality businesses in the United States back in the 1960s and 1970s for peanuts.

For instance, Tim is invested in the dominant concrete company in Dar Es Salaam which has several advantages.

First, Dar Es Salaam’s population is growing like crazy, and the city is projected to be one of the twelve most populous in the world in a few decades. That means a lot of demand for building materials.

And this particular cement company is 70% owned and managed by a successful German cement giant… so they have access to cheap financing and technical support– two major advantages.

The company also has a Price-Earnings ratio of SIX, meaning it costs about $6 per share for every $1 in annual company profits.

By comparison, the typical company in the US sells for 20-30 times earnings.

And to top it all off, this Tanzanian cement company pays a 15% dividend to its shareholders.

Tanzania is clearly a place on the rise, loaded with compelling opportunities to build wealth. This is definitely a country worth keeping on your radar.

To your freedom,

The Pathocracy of the Deep State: Tyranny at the Hands of a Psychopathic Government

By John W. Whitehead

Politicians are more likely than people in the general population to be sociopaths. I think you would find no expert in the field of sociopathy/psychopathy/antisocial personality disorder who would dispute this… That a small minority of human beings literally have no conscience was and is a bitter pill for our society to swallow — but it does explain a great many things, shamelessly deceitful political behavior being one.”—Dr. Martha Stout, clinical psychologist and former instructor at Harvard Medical School

October 22, 2019 “Information Clearing House” – Twenty years ago, a newspaper headline asked the question: “What’s the difference between a politician and a psychopath?

The answer, then and now, remains the same: None.

There is no difference between psychopaths and politicians.

Nor is there much of a difference between the havoc wreaked on innocent lives by uncaring, unfeeling, selfish, irresponsible, parasitic criminals and elected officials who lie to their constituents, trade political favors for campaign contributions, turn a blind eye to the wishes of the electorate, cheat taxpayers out of hard-earned dollars, favor the corporate elite, entrench the military industrial complex, and spare little thought for the impact their thoughtless actions and hastily passed legislation might have on defenseless citizens.

Psychopaths and politicians both have a tendency to be selfish, callous, remorseless users of others, irresponsible, pathological liars, glib, con artists, lacking in remorse and shallow.

Charismatic politicians, like criminal psychopaths, exhibit a failure to accept responsibility for their actions, have a high sense of self-worth, are chronically unstable, have socially deviant lifestyles, need constant stimulation, have parasitic lifestyles and possess unrealistic goals.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re talking about Democrats or Republicans.

Political psychopaths are all largely cut from the same pathological cloth, brimming with seemingly easy charm and boasting calculating minds.

Such leaders eventually create pathocracies: totalitarian societies bent on power, control, and destruction of both freedom in general and those who exercise their freedoms.

Once psychopaths gain power, the result is usually some form of totalitarian government or a pathocracy. “At that point, the government operates against the interests of its own people except for favoring certain groups,” author James G. Long notes. “We are currently witnessing deliberate polarizations of American citizens, illegal actions, and massive and needless acquisition of debt. This is typical of psychopathic systems, and very similar things happened in the Soviet Union as it overextended and collapsed.”

In other words, electing a psychopath to public office is tantamount to national hara-kiri, the ritualized act of self-annihilation, self-destruction and suicide. It signals the demise of democratic government and lays the groundwork for a totalitarian regime that is legalistic, militaristic, inflexible, intolerant and inhuman.

Incredibly, despite clear evidence of the damage that has already been inflicted on our nation and its citizens by a psychopathic government, voters continue to elect psychopaths to positions of power and influence.

According to investigative journalist Zack Beauchamp, “In 2012, a group of psychologists evaluated every President from Washington to Bush II using ‘psychopathy trait estimates derived from personality data completed by historical experts on each president.’ They found that presidents tended to have the psychopath’s characteristic fearlessness and low anxiety levels — traits that appear to help Presidents, but also might cause them to make reckless decisions that hurt other people’s lives.”

The willingness to prioritize power above all else, including the welfare of their fellow human beings, ruthlessness, callousness and an utter lack of conscience are among the defining traits of the sociopath.

When our own government no longer sees us as human beings with dignity and worth but as things to be manipulated, maneuvered, mined for data, manhandled by police, conned into believing it has our best interests at heart, mistreated, jailed if we dare step out of line, and then punished unjustly without remorse—all the while refusing to own up to its failings—we are no longer operating under a constitutional republic.

Instead, what we are experiencing is a pathocracy: tyranny at the hands of a psychopathic government, which “operates against the interests of its own people except for favoring certain groups.”

Worse, psychopathology is not confined to those in high positions of government. It can spread like a virus among the populace. As an academic study into pathocracy concluded, “[T]yranny does not flourish because perpetuators are helpless and ignorant of their actions. It flourishes because they actively identify with those who promote vicious acts as virtuous.”

People don’t simply line up and salute. It is through one’s own personal identification with a given leader, party or social order that they become agents of good or evil.

Much depends on how leaders “cultivate a sense of identification with their followers,” says Professor Alex Haslam. “I mean one pretty obvious thing is that leaders talk about ‘we’ rather than ‘I,’ and actually what leadership is about is cultivating this sense of shared identity about ‘we-ness’ and then getting people to want to act in terms of that ‘we-ness,’ to promote our collective interests. . . . [We] is the single word that has increased in the inaugural addresses over the last century . . . and the other one is ‘America.’”

The goal of the modern corporate state is obvious: to promote, cultivate, and embed a sense of shared identification among its citizens. To this end, “we the people” have become “we the police state.”

We are fast becoming slaves in thrall to a faceless, nameless, bureaucratic totalitarian government machine that relentlessly erodes our freedoms through countless laws, statutes, and prohibitions.

Any resistance to such regimes depends on the strength of opinions in the minds of those who choose to fight back. What this means is that we the citizenry must be very careful that we are not manipulated into marching in lockstep with an oppressive regime.

Writing for ThinkProgress, Beauchamp suggests that “one of the best cures to bad leaders may very well be political democracy.”

But what does this really mean in practical terms?

It means holding politicians accountable for their actions and the actions of their staff using every available means at our disposal: through investigative journalism (what used to be referred to as the Fourth Estate) that enlightens and informs, through whistleblower complaints that expose corruption, through lawsuits that challenge misconduct, and through protests and mass political action that remind the powers-that-be that “we the people” are the ones that call the shots.

Remember, education precedes action. Citizens need to the do the hard work of educating themselves about what the government is doing and how to hold it accountable. Don’t allow yourselves to exist exclusively in an echo chamber that is restricted to views with which you agree. Expose yourself to multiple media sources, independent and mainstream, and think for yourself.

For that matter, no matter what your political leanings might be, don’t allow your partisan bias to trump the principles that serve as the basis for our constitutional republic. As Beauchamp notes, “A system that actually holds people accountable to the broader conscience of society may be one of the best ways to keep conscienceless people in check.”

That said, if we allow the ballot box to become our only means of pushing back against the police state, the battle is already lost.

Resistance will require a citizenry willing to be active at the local level.

Yet as I point out in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People, if you wait to act until the SWAT team is crashing through your door, until your name is placed on a terror watch list, until you are reported for such outlawed activities as collecting rainwater or letting your children play outside unsupervised, then it will be too late.

This much I know: we are not faceless numbers. We are not cogs in the machine. We are not slaves.

We are human beings, and for the moment, we have the opportunity to remain free—that is, if we tirelessly advocate for our rights and resist at every turn attempts by the government to place us in chains.

The Founders understood that our freedoms do not flow from the government. They were not given to us only to be taken away by the will of the State. They are inherently ours. In the same way, the government’s appointed purpose is not to threaten or undermine our freedoms, but to safeguard them.

Until we can get back to this way of thinking, until we can remind our fellow Americans what it really means to be free, and until we can stand firm in the face of threats to our freedoms, we will continue to be treated like slaves in thrall to a bureaucratic police state run by political psychopaths.
