(Natural News) Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez went viral late last week after a video clip of her being brutally heckled was posted online.
A man who did not identify himself accused the New York Democratic socialist of becoming just another tool of the political establishment over her support for using taxpayer funds to provide funds and weapons to Ukraine in its battle against invading Russian forces, contributing to the largest land conflict in Europe since World War II.
“None of this matters unless there’s a nuclear war, which you voted to send arms and weapons to Ukraine. You ran as an outsider, yet you’ve been voting to start this war in Ukraine,” one man said in the video.
“You’re voting to start a third nuclear war with Russia and China. Why are you playing with the lives of American citizens? Tulsi Gabbard has shown guts where you’ve shown cowardice!” he added. “I believed in you, and you became the very thing you sought to fight against. That’s what you’ve become. You are the establishment! And you are the reason why everybody will end up in a nuclear war…”
Investigative journalist Glenn Greenwald posted a Twitter thread to point out the differences in political positions between those held by Ocasio-Cortez when she first ran for Congress in 2018 and today.
“AOC, 12/2020, on Antifa activists menacing politicians in public: Activists *should* be impolite. ‘The whole point of protesting is to make ppl uncomfortable.’ AOC, last night, to protesters confronting her for funding Biden’s proxy war: I won’t answer you! ‘You’re being rude!’” he wrote.
“I’ve gone back and watched the interview I did of AOC during her 2018 primary run, when few had even heard of her. @RyanGrim called me and said: ‘there’s this primary challenger in Queens I think you’d really like.’ He was right. See if you recognize her,” Greenwald added in another Twitter post featuring his interview with AOC.
For her part, Gabbard, a former Democratic lawmaker from Hawaii who left her party last week, also denounced Democrats for going along with funding the Ukraine-Russia war.
“I can no longer remain in today’s Democratic Party that is now under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by racializing every issue and stoke anti-white racism, actively work to undermine our God-given freedoms, are hostile to people of faith and spirituality, demonize the police and protect criminals at the expense of law-abiding Americans, believe in open borders, weaponize the national security state to go after political opponents, and above all, dragging us ever closer to nuclear war,” she said in a Twitter post.
“I believe in a government that is of, by, and for the people. Unfortunately, today’s Democratic Party does not. Instead, it stands for a government of, by, and for the powerful elite. I’m calling on my fellow common sense independent-minded Democrats to join me in leaving the Democratic Party. If you can no longer stomach the direction that so-called woke Democratic Party ideologues are taking our country, I invite you to join me,” the former lawmaker and current U.S. Army Reserve officer added.
She added in a subsequent interview with Fox News host Tucker Carlson: “Rather than taking a stand for peace, prosperity, security and the freedom of the American people, we have too many people in Washington who are warmongers, subservient to the military-industrial complex, and continuing to put their own selfish interests or the interests of their donors first, with no mind for the cost and consequence that their decisions have on the American people.”
