This week Willow has chosen the 80’s as our weekly theme. I literally slept thru the late eighties as a baby, so i relived the period singing vicariously @NYC karaoke clubs oozing with nostalgic cheese. This generation introduced us to MTV music videos, big hair, shoulder pads, 80s spandex leotard, the power ballad. 😀 Were there any other decade with more sentimentally kitchy love songs? I think NOT, love it all btw hehe!♥
Digging around, i’ll kick start this theme with Boy George/ Culture club – Johnny Carson interview. This period felt so liberating and optimistic (judging from the music). ♥Luv Boy George!♥♥
Boy George – First time on Johnny Carson 1984
Culture Club Do You Really Want To Hurt Me* LIVE 1982
Roxette – It Must Have Been Love
Richard Marx – Right Here Waiting
Kenny G – Songbird
Madonna – Crazy For You
Bryan Adams – Heaven
Bryan Adams – Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman?
CHICAGO – Hard To Say I’m Sorry
Berlin – Take My Breathe Away
Foreigner – I Want to know what love is
Wham – Careless Whisper
Heart – Alone
Heart – These Dreams
Bangles – Eternal Flame
Air Supply – All Out Of Love
Air Supply – The One That You Love
Journey – Open Arms
Journey – Faithfully
Lionel Richie – Hello
REO Speedwagon – Keep on Loving You
Reo Speedwagon – Take It On The Run
Def Leppard – Bringin’ on the heartbreak ’82
Guns N’ Roses – Patience
Extreme – More Than Words *already slippin’ 90s, still this song works!*
The list is endless, this is just a taste of the 80s, thx so much for listening!♥
OMG 80’s addict here!!! LOVE just about any 80s music or movies!! So many great songs here!!! Every time I hear Boy George and Do you want to hurt me I can’t think of nothing else but The Wedding Singer!! Great movie! 🙂

Hi Dani, thanks for dropping by, i’m glad u liked the post. Songs were so catchy and singable in the 80’s, we need a bit of optimism these days. 🙂

This is exceptional, Maddie. I haven’t heard ‘Right Here Waiting’ in many years, and when I listened to it last night, I couldn’t help but think of stalker/restraining order. Amazing how times have changed.
Aside from that, this is a great collection of songs. ★★★★★

The Police also had a smash hit with Every breath u take, which may be interpreted as such. Hope u & Lisa had a lovely commercial transaction of the heart yesterday! 🙂

I only recognize 3 … but then I have never been in a karaoke club. Jukeboxes. We had jukeboxes. Can you sing all of these? I bet you are good. 🙂 I just realized, NONE of us used any show tunes!

Juke joints are cool, have u been to any in the south? I can hold a steady note, and keep pitch but my range is limited. I do enjoy singing and have sung most of these, esp songs with nice melodies.
How’s your singing coming along? Hey that’s right, show tunes would be a great theme by itself.
Have a wonderful weekend Bear! 🙂

Your brother? Surely not you dad?

No this is just a generic pic for Big Hair 80s, i pulled off google. My dad sports the traditional short side-part, he doesn’t like change. That’s why it’s a classic style- or so he says! I asked him to grow his hair out but to no avail, haha.

It is a classic. BUT the neckline shape and length changes as does the not-quite-sideburns hair around and over the ears. Aren’t you glad he doesn’t sport an Elvis Presley look? Or a Trump comb over!! Hahahaha
It is your turn to pick the theme for the coming Thursday. If you are up for it?
I just watched a docu of some Danes sailing around the north Of Greenland, looking at all the interesting things that have been revealed by melting sea and fjord ice and glaciers. Scientists and artist and anthropologists documenting whatever is revealed. One of says, ” I really don’t care about nature and animals. It’s us or them.” and at another point another one says ” People are just too sentimental about keeping things the way they are. Who cares if the ice melts and Denmark goes underwater? We’ll just invade Switzerland.”
:-0!!!!

Elvis was hot sporting his D.A. cut! i told my dad to go bold/bald rather than the dreaded comb-over, just plain embarrassing in any era.
Hey i didn’t realize they had rednecks up in Denmark. 😦
If the animals and plants go, guess who’s next?! Silly numbnuts need to defrost their hearts, & invade their ignorance.
